Heynckes demands more in attack

Bayern Munich boss Jupp Heynckes has challenged his side to rediscover their killer instinct when they meet Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday.

A win for Bayern will see them move to within a point of Bundesliga leaders Borussia Dortmund ahead of their match with Mainz, and Heynckes is demanding a ruthless approach.

The Bavarian giants responded well from their defeat to Basel in the Champions League with a commanding 2-0 win over Schalke, but the former Leverkusen manager was more concerned with the chances miss than the chances converted.

“Our attacking players have to take more of their chances. Sure, we won 2-0 (against Schalke), but we should have won by more,” Heynckes said.

“You don’t always get that many chances in front of goal and, when you do, you have to be decisive in taking them.”

“The way forward is to show a united front, for everybody in the team to pull together in the same direction. This will help us achieve a strong balance when making the transition from defence into attack and vice versa.”

Heynckes said both Holger Badstuber and Franck Ribery were highly doubtful for Saturday’s clash, with the duo struggling to overcome back and thigh problems respectively.

“We will have to see how we play … it is not looking good with Badstuber. There is also a big question mark over Ribery’s fitness. We will have to wait and see,” he said.
