Hiddink: Anzhi need goals

Anzhi Makhachkala coach Guus Hiddink has signalled his intention to bring more attacking talent to the club in the off season.

Hiddink saw his team play out a frustrating goalless draw at home to Spartak Moscow on Monday.

The result meant the ambitious Russian club dropped to seventh place on the Premier League table, 11 points behind table-toppers Zenit St Petersburg.

And Hiddink bemoaned his side’s inability to break down a resolute Spartak defence, hinting additions may be required to a strike force that already features the highest-paid footballer in the world, Samuel Eto’o.

“Spartak didn’t allow us a lot of chances, they are very well organised,” Hiddink told Gazeta.ru.

“It shows that Anzhi are in seventh place and is reflective of the team’s attacking potential,” he said.

“We hope that the players we have will improve, but we need to think strategically.”

“I think we’ll explore some possibilities on the market in the summer. But that is not to say I am unhappy with the players I have.”

Anzhi resume their pursuit of Champions League qualification with an away match against Lokomotiv Moscow on Sunday.
