The families of the victims of the Hillsborough disaster will learn the date and location of the fresh inquests into their deaths on Thursday.

The original verdicts of accidental death for the 96 deceased who died due to crushing during Liverpool’s FA Cup semi-final with Nottingham Forest on April 15 1989 were quashed following a High Court review last December, leading to new inquests being ordered.

The initial pre-court hearing into the inquests will begin in London at 11:30, with Lord Justice Goldring having been appointed as coroner.

Margaret Aspinall, chairman of the Hillsborough Family Support Group, said she hopes the inquests will be held “sooner rather than later”.
