Sampdoria forward Mauro Icardi is refusing to be drawn on speculation surrounding his future after being linked with a transfer to Inter.

The 20-year-old admitted that he is pleased to have been rumoured with a move to such a prestigious club, but insisted he is not interested in transfer talk.

He told Corriere dello Sport: “I am glad to hear these stories. Talk about the transfer market is not for me.

“But I am flattered by the Inter rumours. They are a great team with many great players from Argentina.

“San Siro is a beautiful stadium and will remain in my memory forever.

“I have not played there yet though. Both times I’ve gone there I have been on the bench.”

Icardi has scored nine goals in 30 Serie A appearances this season and has drawn comparisons with compatriot and Inter striker Diego Milito.

However, the forward believes he needs to replicate his showings this season over an extended period before he can considered in the same calibre as Milito.

He added: “It is a great compliment that people compare me with Milito, but I have to prove my quality over a long time.”
