Islam Slimani set to join Newcastle United

Portuguese daily newspaper A Bola claims that Newcastle United are set to complete the signing of Algerian forward Islam Slimani from Leicester City.

The Magpies were desperate to sign a proven goalscorer in the January window and they have reportedly agreed a deal to sign the former Sporting CP hotshot.

Slimani will join the club on loan until the end of the season that may contain a buy-out clause.

The Magpies made room for their new signing by offloading back-up striker Aleksandar Mitrovic, and the 29-year-old will be vying Joselu for a starting berth at St James’ Park.

Slimani may have struggled for playing time at King Power Stadium this term, but he could prove a real asset for relegation-threatened Newcastle United.
