Bolton Wanderers manager Owen Coyle is set to recall first-choice goalkeeper Jussi Jaaskelainen for Saturday’s game against Sunderland.

The Finland stopper was on the bench for the 1-0 defeat at Blackburn last weekend with 23-year-old Adam Bogdan given a run in goal.

Coyle explained the reasons behind switching around who plays in goal.

“Jussi has been outstanding all season as he has been since day one at the football club,” Coyle said.

“Given the last few weeks and the amount of games we have had in a short period of time, I told him that we were going to give young Adam a game at Blackburn.”

“Being the professional that Jussi is, he was comfortable with it.”

“Jussi will play in goal against Sunderland on Saturday. At the end of the day, those are the decisions you make as a manager and they were made for the right reasons.”

After two straight defeats on the road, Bolton will be delighted to line up at the Reebok Stadium this weekend. Their excellent record of five straight home wins should fill Coyle’s men with confidence.

The squad’s injury problems are also beginning to clear up which should make for a more comfortable end to the season.

“I’m hoping that Daniel Sturridge will be able to train on Thursday and it is the same with Gretar Steinsson,” he said.

“As for Mark Davies, hopefully he will be able to train in the next couple of days, although Sunderland might come too soon. Fingers crossed, he will be available for the upcoming games with Blackpool and Manchester City.”

“Bit by bit hopefully we can get our players back and have a healthier squad, numbers-wise, than what we have had of late.”

“But, ultimately, you have to make the most of the players that you do have available.”

“Most clubs have injuries from time to time and you have to do your best in those circumstances.”

Defender Sam Ricketts (calf) sits out and midfielder Stuart Holden is out for the season with a knee problem.
