Johnson: Milijas red card was wrong

Wolves defender Roger Johnson hopes that midfielder Nenad Milijas will have his red card rescinded after being sent off at Arsenal.

Mick McCarthy’s side went down after just eight minutes to a Gervinho goal but Steven Fletcher’s equaliser after 38 minutes helped his side claim a point which brings them further clear of the bottom three.

Their task was made infinitely harder, however, after Milijas was sent off with fifteen minutes remaining for what appeared to be a fair challenge.

After the game Johnson refused to criticise referee Stuart Atwell but reiterated his opinion that the challenge was a fair one.

“I feel that Ned has gone in one-footed and pushed the ball. I may be wrong, but I hope he has a look at it and rescinds it,” he told BBC Sport.

“The referee was approachable when I spoke to him about the red card.”

The 28-year-old went on to praise his team-mates for a committed performance and made clear his delight at the result.

“We rode our luck at times, but that is football. We have been punished for the slightest things in recent games and I think we deserved that point,” he said.

“It was a great effort and it feels like a clean sheet.”
