Jol free to spend in January

Fulham boss Martin Jol has revealed money is available to bring in new talent during the January transfer window.

The south-west London club have been linked with a number of strikers over recent weeks, including Catania’s Maxi Lopez and West Brom’s Nigerian international Peter Odemwingie.

The Dutchman is confident he has the backing of club chairman Mohamed Al-Fayed, should the right player become available.

“We never have conversations about money,” Jol said.

“If we come up with a good player, he will sign it off. If it is too expensive, we will have second thoughts about it.”

“I have to say he is always very positive and helpful.”

“That is what he showed in the summer and just before the transfer window closed with Bryan Ruiz.”

“I don’t think there is any problem in that sense.”

“If we come up with the right players, he will try and to be helpful. He will back us.”

A number of Fulham players are also linked with moves away from Craven Cottage. Andrew Johnson was sought after by Premier League strugglers Blackburn and QPR, but no deal was ever made.

Dickson Etuhu and Bobby Zamora are also reportedly set to leave the club, but Jol refused to confirm which players would be leaving the club this month.

“I don’t comment on that sort of thing because that is speculation,” he said.

“Of course there are clubs trying to do things, to be better and improve their team.”

“But I think it would not be right to help them, to put my players out on loan there that could probably fill in here.”
