Jol: Zamora loves Fulham

Martin Jol says he has not fallen out with striker Bobby Zamora as Fulham prepare to face Odense in the Europa League on Wednesday.

Zamora was left out of the squad for Fulham’s 2-0 defeat away to Swansea on Saturday, fuelling rumours of a disagreement between manager Jol and the centre-forward.

The Dutchman is set to recall Zamora for Fulham’s final Europa League group-stage match, and has denied suggestions of a rift with the player.

“I said to him a few weeks ago, ‘Do you love this club?’, and he said, ‘Yeah, I love this club, I love this team’,” Jol said.

“I don’t think there is any problem.”

“There are always players in a squad of 24 or 25 players that look at other clubs, but this is a great club.”

“There is not one player that has told me he does not want to play for this squad.

“I feel if you look at the media, they started this Bobby thing in August.”

Fulham must beat Odense at home if they are to guarantee progression to the Europa League’s Round of 32.

Jol feels the competition is viewed more favourably in Europe than in England, where it can be seen as burden on the squad ahead of league matches.

“If you look on the continent, everyone plays to get into Europe,” he said.

“Here in England it’s a bit different, because they will look at the top four to be in the Champions League.”

“So Stoke City or Fulham will be happier to play in the competition than Spurs for example.”

“And there is a little disadvantage; you have to play that many games.”

“If it is four days (between matches) it is fine, if you have two days, it could be a problem.”

“We’ve got Bolton on Saturday so you have to get your priorities right and still try to win these games.”
