Jovetic rejected City and Juventus; Liverpool linked to Argentine hotshot

Jovetic rejected City and Juventus

Fiorentina star Stevan Jovetic has revealed that he snubbed approaches from Manchester City and Juventus in order to remain at Artemio Franchi.

The Montenegrin forward was one of the most sought-after players in the summer transfer window, and was paired with a host of high-profile sides.

The 22-year-old was believed to be on the verge of joining a top European club, but he now explains why he decided to remain at Fiorentina.

“I never felt a long way away from Fiorentina, but I did feel that my future was in the balance,” Jovetic said to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“I spoke to president Della Valle and he convinced me to stay, but we set off from a good base as I already knew that I would remain.”

The highly rated youngster confirmed he was thinking about accepting an offer from Juventus.

“Juventus did come after me with some insistence and it is normal to think about it when you hear certain things – the chance to play in the Champions League, you have the faith of the club and the fact that you will be placed at the centre of a project.”

Jovetic was also subject of a serious bid from Premier League champions Manchester City.

“I stopped that negotiation. By the time they had made their move from England I had already decided that I would be staying in Florence.”

The Montenegro international has been in fine form last season, scoring 14 goals in 27 Serie A appearances, while he has already netted three times in just 2 Serie A games this term.

Liverpool linked to Argentine hotshot

Liverpool have entered the race to sign Racing Club midfielder Luciano Vietto, according to Daily Mirror.

The 18-year-old is regarded as one of the hottest prospects in Argentina and ahs already caught attention of top European clubs.

Liverpool are among the clubs keeping tabs on the talented midfielder and they have had the player watched on several occasions.

The problem is that Juventus are also keen on Vietto, so it appears the Reds will have to move quickly if they want to get their man.

The highly rated youngster was handed a first team debut by Diego Simeone in October 2011 before going on to make another substitute appearance last season.

Vietto has featured in three league games for Racing Club this term, with his hat-trick against San Martin clearly the highlight of his career.

Borussia star hints at January exit

Borussia Moenchengladbach striker Mike Hanke has refused to rule out a January departure from due Fohlen.

The 28-year-old has lost his place in the side following the arrival of Luuk de Jong from Twente and he admits that could see him leave the club in the near future.

“I feel fit as a fiddle in Gladbach and want to stay,” Hanke explained to Sport Bild.

“But, of course, I only look at the next few weeks, that’s clear. No player likes to sit on the bench. I don’t. In football, you can never rule out anything in advance.

”My representative will certainly hold talks with the club, regardless of whether I renew or not.”

The former Germany international joined Borussia on a free transfer in January 2011 and quickly developed into an important player for die Fohlen.

The striker scored 8 goals in 31 Bundesliga appearances last term, but was recently relegated to the bench despite scoring in the opening league game against Hoffenheim.
