Former Lyon star Juninho Pernambucano has signed a six-month contract extension with Vasco Da Gama as he continues to weigh up retirement.

Mais Futebol reports the 36-year-old midfielder, who returned to Vasco for a second spell in April 2011, agreed to renew his contract with the club, continuing on the minimum salary he accepted after leaving Qatar’s Al Gharafa.

Wary about the toll constant travel and playing time is taking on his body, however, the veteran would only agree to six months more in professional football.

Once that time expires in July 2012, Juninho will decide whether to play until the end of the season or to end his professional career.

The 40-times capped Brazil midfielder became famous for his ability at set-pieces, and 44 of his 100 goals for Ligue 1 giants Lyon came from free kicks.

He also holds the record for European goals at the French club, hitting 18 in 65 games.
