Juventus renew Cavani interest

Former Palermo director Rino Foschi says the club beat Juventus and Real Madrid to sign Edinson Cavani from Danubio in 2007.

Uruguay international Cavani joined Palermo for 4 million euros before moving on to Napoli three seasons later, where he has established himself as one of the best strikers in Serie A.

Cavani is has been linked with a switch to one of Europe’s traditional heavyweights, with Juve believed to be particularly keen.

Foschi, now at Serie B club Padova, says Juve’s interest in the player is nothing new.

“We were already well placed when Juventus made their move,” Foschi told Tuttosport.

“Our biggest rivals for him were actually Fiorentina … who wanted to take him to the Viola.

“Real Madrid also tried to sign him. Fortunately, the player’s agent was serious and kept his promise with us.”

Juve, Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City are all reportedly considering a move for Cavani at the end of the season.
