United States coach Jurgen Klinsmann said he may apply for American citizenship sometime in the future.
The 48-year-old former Germany international has been based in the USA for a number of years and took control of the national side in 2011, after a year in charge at Bayern Munich and two at the Mannschaft helm.
“It is quite possible that in the future I will take American nationality. It would take a long time for it to be possible and it is a lengthy process,” Klinsmann told Bild.
“Football is not the top sport here. We may have improved and caught up with other sports, but I can still live relatively anonymously.”
Klinsmann’s side face Germany in May and it is a fixture he is looking forward to as he bids to show the world just how much progress his team have made under his guidance.
“I look forward to that game very much. We can show Germany how far our football has developed here in the United States,” he said.
