Klose in doubt for derby clash

Lazio striker Miroslav Klose could miss his side’s Derby della Capitale against Roma on Sunday with a knee injury.

The 33-year-old injured ligaments in his left knee while on international duty with Germany and returned to Rome for treatment on Monday.

Tests were carried out by the Lazio medical staff and the club announced on Tuesday that Klose’s chances of playing in the Rome derby will be clearer by Thursday.

“Klose returned overnight from the Germany camp,” read a statement on Lazio’s official website. “At lunchtime he went to the Paidea clinic accompanied by the club doctors and underwent specialist tests.”

“These confirmed the presence of a small sprain in advanced state of healing on the internal collateral ligament of the left knee.”

“From this afternoon he will undergo therapy and as for Sunday’s game, his condition will be evaluated over the next 48 hours.”

Lazio will head into Sunday’s Serie A encounter at the Stadio Olimpico level on eight points with Roma after five rounds of matches in the league.
