According to multiple sources, Liverpool have been unable to reach an agreement with Ibrahima Konate over a new contract, and the defender will therefore leave the club as a free agent, as his current deal expires.
The negotiations between the Merseyside club and the French defender have been long, with reports repeatedly changing the narrative from his exit being very close, to a new contract being signed even closer. However, with the season now over, it seems the decision has been made for Konate to depart from Anfield.
The France international has been linked with Real Madrid and Bayern Munich in the past, as well as Paris Saint-Germain. But while Bayern were said to only want him in case Dayot Upamecano leaves – which will not happen – Real and PSG remain genuine possibilities when it comes to Konate contemplating his destination this summer.
Konate will be the fourth senior player to leave Liverpool as a free agent in the last, with Trent Alexander-Arnold joining Real Madrid last summer, and Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson set to depart this summer too.
Ibrahima Konate set to leave Liverpool when contract expires next month. The player and club unable to agree new terms.
