Real Sociedad fought back impressively to draw 2-2 with Barcelona, while Real Madrid beat Getafe in Saturday’s La Liga action.

After a 5-0 opening day win against Villarreal, Barcelona fans had every reason to feel confident ahead of their side’s trip to the Estadio Municipal de Anoeta.

And when Pep Guardiola’s side scored two goals in the first 11 minutes, the result seemed settled after both Xavi and Cesc Fabregas netted within 60 seconds.

But Real Sociedad showed a lot of character to not only keep Barca at bay, but also score themselves.

Agirretxe, fresh from a double on the opening day, bagged a 59th minute goal and just two minutes later scores were level after French forward Antoine Griezmann equalised.

Barcelona responded by immediately introducing Lionel Messi off the bench and Andres Iniesta was brought on with 10 minutes to play, but neither change could bring about a winning goal for the visitors, who had to settle for a point.

Real Madrid took advantage of Barcelona’s slip-up to build a two-point gap at the top of the table after they beat Getafe 4-2.

Karim Benzema’s 14th minute opener was cancelled out by Venezuelan striker Nicolas Fedor six minutes before half-time.

Cristiano Ronadlo scored his fourth goal of the season on the hour from the penalty spot and when Benzema got his second nine minutes later, Real seemed set for victory.

But Fedor quickly responded for Getafe and ensured a somewhat nervy finish, before substitute Gonzalo Higuain killed off the contest with his goal just two minutes before the end.

Sevilla defender Alexis equalised with four minutes to play to give his side a 2-2 draw against a 10-man Villarreal.
