Germany captain Philipp Lahm has withdrawn from the squad that will face France in an international friendly in Bremen on Wednesday.
The German Football Federation (DFB) announced on their official website that the team will have to do without their leader, who was present during club side Bayern Munich’s 2-0 win over Schalke on Sunday.
“Philipp Lahm is unavailable for the international match between the German national team and France on Wednesday in Bremen,” a DFB statement read.
“The 85-times-capped player has been struggling with bursitis in his right knee since last week.”
After consulting Germany doctor Hans-Wilhelm Muller-Wohlfahrt, Lahm has been advised to stay in Munich and receive treatment.
Almost certain to miss the clash against France is Borussia Dortmund’s Sven Bender, who was kicked in the face by Mame Biram Diouf in his side’s 3-1 victory over Hannover on Sunday.
