Lambert, Moyes content with shared spoils

Both Paul Lambert and David Moyes were content with a share of the points following Everton’s 1-1 draw with Norwich on Saturday.

Grant Holt’s opener at Goodison Park was cancelled out late on by Leon Osman, but Lambert was happy to come away with a point.

He told reporters after the game: “We’ve come to a really hard place to come and we battled really strongly and defended strongly when we had to and looked a threat.”

“I knew it’d be hard with the crowd that Everton have got, that drives them on and a team that wasn’t that long ago in the Champions League.”

“They came roaring right at us and they’re a really good side. You weather the storm which you have to do and it was the same at Anfield, they came at us and we defended strongly and got ourselves a point there and it was similar today.”

Captain Holt followed up his goal-scoring exploits last week against Newcastle with another goal on Saturday, and Lambert was delighted with how he has stepped up to the Premier League alongside strike partner, Steve Morison.

“He’s been great for the last two and half years I’ve been here,” Lambert said.

“I think he’s scored 50-odd goals in a 100 games and in anybody’s book that’s a phenomenal goalscoring ratio. He’s always been a handful and it’s great testament to him.”

Everton manager Moyes was happy with the point that leaves his side in 14th on the English Premier League table, but felt it could have been better for his side.

“I thought we played well… we didn’t score and put the ball in the net – but for 20-25 minutes at the start we played well,” Moyes said.

“I thought our worst period was after they scored in the 15 minutes before half time. They took the wind out of our sails but I don’t think we were getting battered or hammered at any stage.”

“It was a really poor goal we conceded that left us with a mountain to climb and for long periods it looked like we wouldn’t get a point out of the game but luckily we did and by the end we deserved all three.”

“We’ve been playing well but not scoring the goals and that makes the difference.”
