Larsson: New signings have improved us

Sunderland midfielder Sebastian Larsson believes that the club’s new signings have brought something extra to the squad.

Paolo Di Canio’s side have spent the close-season rebuilding after finishing three points off relegation last term, with much of that time spent away from England.

Trips to Italy and Asia have seen Di Canio’s side put through their paces in pre-season, and Larsson believes that the new additions – including midfielders Emanuele Giaccherini and Cabral, USA international striker Jozy Altidore

and goalkeeper Vito Mannone – have been particularly impressive.

“Pre-season is all about getting to know how the new players play – how the likes of Manny Giaccherini and Jozy Altidore like to play,” he told the Sunderland Echo.

“We’re trying to change the way we play football this season; be more attacking and be better on the ball.

“And, in glimpses, we’ve been able to do that.

“But they’re definitely good players and they’ll bring a lot to the team.”

Sunderland will play their final pre-season fixture against FC Midtjylland on Wednesday as they complete their preparations ahead of the Premier League opener against Fulham at the Stadium of Light on August 17.
