Lazio linked to Albanian defender

Italian giants Lazio have made a check on Greuther Furth defender Mergim Mavraj, according to Il Corriere dello Sport.

The Biancocelesti are looking to add a new central defender to their ranks with Modibo Diakite set to leave when his contract expires in June.

Il Corriere dello Sport has suggested that Lazio have set their sights on Greuther Furth centre-back Mergim Mavraj.

The 26-year-old has established a good defensive partnership with Lorik Cana in the Albania national team and the two players could now be reunited at club level.

Lazio sporting director Igli Tare has travelled to his native country to speak to Mavraj with a view of making a bid for his services.

Mergim Mavraj has spent his entire professional career in Germany, featuring for Bochum and Greuther Furth.

The player has made a total of 32 Bundesliga appearances for Furth this season, but could not prevent his side from getting relegated to the second division.
