Vitoria Guimaraes slipped further from the top while Uniao Leiria upset Braga at home in Saturday’s Liga Sagres action.
In the earlier game, Guimaraes looked set to take all three points and keep in touch with second-placed Benfica when Brazilian striker Edgar Silva handed them the lead in the 36th minute.
But Pacos have made a reputation as one of Liga Sagres’ more determined outfits, and they earned themselves a share of the points when striker Nelson Oliveira climbed from the bench to equalise on 79 minutes.
Guimaraes remain third ahead of Sunday’s fixtures, but could have drawn back to within two points of reigning champions Benfica had they held on for three points. Leaders Porto will go seven points clear atop the standings should they defeat Vitoria Setubal on Monday.
Last season’s runners-up Braga found themselves on the end of a 3-1 defeat at Leiria, sending them down to seventh on the table.
Brazilian striker Matheus Nascimento put Braga in front after eight minutes but was later sent off as Carlao’s double strike and a penalty from veteran midfielder Silas secured all three points for Leiria.
The winners move to fourth on the table, passing Academica and Sporting Lisbon ahead of Sunday’s league action.
