Auxerre moved out of the Ligue 1 relegation zone with a 2-0 win over Dijon in their crucial clash on Thursday.

Jean-Guy Wallemme’s team recorded their second straight win and first away from home this season thanks to goals from Roy Contout and Delvin N’Dinga at Stade Gaston Gerard.

The vital three points lift Auxerre out of the bottom three courtesy of their goal difference, while Dijon fall to 19th after a fifth straight loss.

Dijon made the better start to the clash, which was postponed on Wednesday due to bad weather, with Benjamin Corgnet and Eric Bautheac threatening.

Contout opened the scoring against the run of play in the 30th minute, heading in a cross from Alain Traore.

Brice Jovial had a glorious chance for Dijon in the first half but was unable to make contact at the back post.

The striker went close with a quarter of an hour to play when his powerful 25-yard drive bounced off the crossbar with Olivier Sorin beaten as Dijon searched for an equaliser.

But substitute N’Dinga sealed the win for Auxerre, going on a solo run before neatly finishing through the legs of the advancing Baptiste Reynet.
