Ligue 1 wrap: Bordeaux clinch nine-goal thriller, PSG still top

An injury-time winner from Ludovic Obraniak helped Bordeaux defeat Lille 5-4 in a Ligue 1 thriller on Sunday, as Paris Saint-Germain drew.

The home crowd was stunned within two minutes of kick-off at the Stade Lille Metropole, when Nicolas Maurice-Belay opened the scoring for Bordeaux courtesy of a deflection off Mathieu Debuchy.

Hosts Lille drew level just six minutes later, however, with David Rozehnal netting after Bordeaux goalkeeper Cedric Carrasso could only parry the centre-back’s initial shot.

The visitors regained the lead on 16 minutes, with Obraniak on target after Debuchy gave away possession in a dangerous area.

It was 3-1 five minutes into the second half, after Maurice-Belay advanced into the area and beat Lille goalkeeper Mickael Landreau with a low shot.

The match looked over as a contest by the hour mark, with Yoan Gouffran tapping home Jaroslav Plasil’s delivery to hand Bordeaux a three-goal lead.

Eden Hazard had been guilty of giving the ball away during the build up to the visitors’ fourth goal, but he made amends by lashing home a free kick to make it 4-2 with 25 minutes still to go.

Nine minutes later and Debuchy also found redemption, plucking Rio Mavuba’s ball out of the air and volleying into the bottom corner with Carrasso helpless.

Now the comeback was well and truly on, but it took until the last minute for Lille to equalise, with Hazard and Pedretti combining to allow Nolan Roux to level proceedings at 4-4.

It looked as through Lille had completed a memorable escape act, but there was still time for a further twist.

Three minutes into injury time, Obraniak fired home his second of the day from an unmarked position on the left side of the box, leaving it too late for the defiant champions to mount another comeback.

Defeat leaves Lille third on the table, 10 points back from second-placed Montpellier and 11 behind leaders Paris Saint-Germain.

PSG retain top spot despite being held to a 0-0 draw away to struggling Nice, who are third from bottom.

In the other match on Sunday, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s 70th-minute strike was enough for St Etienne to take all three points away from their visit to Toulouse.
