Ligue 1 wrap: Marseille leave it late

PSG notched their first win of the season while Marseille consolidated their spot on top of the Ligue 1 table with a 3-1 win on Sunday.

Marseille dominated Stade Rennes for much of the match but required Andre-Pierre Gignac’s strike in the 83rd minute and a Romain Danze own goal to seal their fourth straight win to start the campaign.

The home side’s first-half dominance finally paid off 10 minutes from the interval when Jeremy Morel’s left-foot shot crept in from the edge of the area, but Julien Feret left Marseille stunned when he hammered a shot into the roof of the net from the corner of the box.

The home side were finding chances much harder to come by in the second half but after seeing a shot parried wide, Gignac soon netted with only seven minutes remaining.

Andre Ayew missed a golden chance to seal the win with a third before Danze put through his own net to seal the visitors’ fate.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic again justified his 20-million euro price tag with a brace against Lille in a crucial 2-1 win at the Grand Stade Lille Metropole.

The Swedish international scored twice inside the opening half hour either side of Aurelien Chedjou’s equaliser for Lille to earn PSG their first win of the season.

The win moves Carlo Ancelotti’s side inside the top 10 after dropping points in their opening three games.

Ten-man Bordeaux remain undefeated this season but will feel they dropped two points as Nice claimed a last-gasp equaliser through Mahamane Traore in a 1-1 draw.

Henri Saivet nodded home in the 86th minute for what looked like Bordeaux’s winner after battling hard for much of the second half following Ludovic Sane’s dismissal.

Yet, Traore had the last say when he found space in stoppage time and expertly lobbed Bordeaux goalkeeper Cedric Carrasso.
