A loan move back to the England for David Beckham is still some way off, with the former England captain yet to speak to any clubs.

A number of English Premier League clubs have expressed their interest in obtaining Beckham on a short-term loan deal as he looks to keep fit over the Major League Soccer off-season.

Tottenham appear to be the front-runners for Beckham’s services, although Newcastle and Blackburn have also signalled their intent.

However, Beckham’s club the Los Angeles Galaxy are yet to decide if they will allow their star player to leave, and a representative for the former Manchester United and Real Madrid winger said little progress had been made with regards to a deal.

“Spurs are one of many clubs interested – but we have not yet had detailed talks,” said a spokesman for the 35-year-old.

“At the moment we are waiting on the decision of LA Galaxy with regards to a loan move. The loan would be a short one until the start of the MLS season.”

“David would then return and play a full season with the Galaxy.”

“The loan is part of David’s desire to keep fit and make himself available for England again.”

If a move to England did eventuate, Beckham would be available until the MLS season resumes on March 15, meaning he could play 11 games.

Tottenham appears the most likely destination for Beckham, with Spurs boss Harry Redknapp revealing the player was interested in a move to North London.

“He (Beckham) said ‘I’d like to come back and I fancy playing for Spurs because I like the way they play’,” Redknapp said.

New Blackburn manager Steve Kean confirmed he was interested in bringing Beckham to Ewood Park, along with several other new faces.

“I think we will sign at least three, possibly four, we might have one on loan at least at this stage that is the way it is looking,” Kean told the Lancashire Evening Telegraph.

“Hopefully talks can continue and with someone like Beckham, someone will get a good player if he comes over here. If he does come back to this country, he is someone we would be interested in.”
