Liverpool have confirmed the signing of Alisson Becker from AS Roma.
After his two mistakes in the Champions League final cost Liverpool the most prestigious trophy in club football, Loris Karius found himself in a very deep hole with the critical eye of the entire football public in England directed straight at him. Manager Jurgen Klopp at first publicly expressed support for his compatriot, but Karius repaid his faith in a poor way by making another mistake in a pre-season friendly against Tranmere Rovers. Klopp considered giving Danny Ward a chance but he quickly opted to pursue a deal for Alisson instead.
Liverpool’s initial offer amounting to a total of €70million was deemed insufficient by Roma, but then the Reds increased their bid to €75million and an agreement had been reached.
The Brazil international underwent a medical in the North-West of England on Thursday, before signing the deal with the Reds and becoming the world’s most expensive goalkeeper.
Alisson is Liverpool’s third first-team signing this summer, after midfielder Fabinho and wide forward Xherdan Shaqiri, while midfielder Naby Keita had been acquired a year earlier but has only joined the Reds from RB Leipzig this summer.
