Liverpool have made an audacious statement in their attempts to show support for under-fire Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez.

The Reds’ players all wore white t-shirts with an image of a celebrating Suarez on the front and the player’s name and number on the back as they warmed up before their English Premier League match with Wigan on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, Suarez received an eight-match ban and 40,000-pound fine – a punishment

pending any appeal – after the FA found him guilty of racially abusing

Manchester United’s Patrice Evra in a match between the two sides on

October 15.

Manager Kenny Dalglish also wore one of the t-shirts as he conducted his pre-match television interview, and said it highlighted the strength of feeling the players and staff had for their colleague.

The show of support came after the striker’s team-mates had released a joint statement backing the 24-year-old on Wednesday, making it clear they were all fully behind the player.
