Shakhtar Donetsk coach Mircea Lucescu has been hospitalised following a car crash in his native Romania.

The 66-year-old was admitted to hospital along with another passenger after his SUV was struck by a tram.

Bogdan Oprita, chief of the city’s paramedics, said that Lucescu was conscious, but incurred chest injuries.

Lucescu reportedly suffered three broken ribs as a result of the crash and will undergo surgery to remove the accumulated blood in his chest cavity. His condition is not considered life-threatening.

The former Inter and Galatasaray boss took charge of the Ukrainian side in 2004 and has delivered five league titles and the 2009 UEFA Cup to the Donbass Arena.
