Makoun points to Lyon exit door

Cameroon international midfielder Jean II Makoun on Wednesday said he is hoping the winter transfer window provides him with a way out of French league strugglers Lyon.

Makoun only recently returned to the squad following a thigh injury, but remains a target for some unhappy fans who, in recent weeks, have demanded his departure from the Stade Gerland.

Although Makoun would like to be playing more regularly, he said he is unhappy with his current situation and would now sit back and wait for the offers to come in.

“I want to play and I’m going to keep my concentration and wait (for offers). There are people working hard in this respect,” Makoun said at a press conference.

“We’re obviously thinking about the winter transfer market and it’s totally normal for me to be looking to see if I can get more playing time elsewhere.”

Makoun arrived at the seven-time consecutive French champions (2002-2008) from Lille in 2008 for a fee of 14 million euros.

Lyon coach Claude Puel is the former handler of Lille, the reason why some fans believe Makoun is being given favourable treatment at the club.

Lyon’s fans have been given plenty of reason for grief this season having seen the side drop into the relegation zone before a recent fightback has allowed them to climb to 11th.

Striker Bafetimbi Gomis, who signed from Lyon’s arch rivals St Etienne in July 2009, has also been a target for unhappy fans at the club.
