Manchester City are getting closer to signing Napoli’s Jorginho, according to multiple reports.
Paul Joyce, northern football correspondent for the Times, claims that Liverpool have given up on the Brazil-born Italian international as he is set to join Manchester City, even though Jürgen Klopp does need a player of that type.
Meanwhile, over in Italy, it’s Calciomercatto who have reported the words of Jorginho’s agent that the Etihad club and Napoli are already in talks about a possible transfer of the midfielder to England. Carlo Ancelotti has succeeded Maurizio Sarri in the Napoli dugout, and the agent believes the new manager will have a big say in the matter. He stressed that City manager Pep Guardiola likes his client, but also that his contract with Napoli is still valid, and that the player’s focus is on Italy’s three upcoming friendly games at the moment.
At Manchester City, Jorginho would likely be seen as a long-term successor to the 33-year-old Fernandinho.
