Roberto Mancini hailed his side and warned that the best is yet to come from newcomer Sergio Aguero after Manchester City’s rout of Swansea.

The hosts cruised to a 4-0 victory at Etihad Stadium on Monday courtesy of goals by Edin Dzeko, David Silva and a brace from Atletico Madrid acquisition Aguero, who came on as a second-half substitute and produced an inspired display.

Speaking after the game, City manager Mancini admitted his players had taken a while to get going but conceded he could have few complaints about the start to their Premier League campaign.

“Yes I’m delighted after this performance,” he told Sky Sports.

“But I think in the first half, Swansea played very well, and for 15-20 minutes we had some problems.”

“After that we started to press, and then we had many chances to score but in the end I am very happy.”

Mancini also insisted that, despite his stunning debut for the Sky Blues, Aguero needed more time to produce his best form.

“He (Aguero) is not tired, I think that he needs to recover because he only finished the Copa America three weeks ago,” Mancini explained.

“But in the last week he worked with the team. He needs another two or three weeks to be 100%, maybe.”

“For me, he (Aguero) is a fantastic striker, he is young, I think for us he will be a fantastic player in the future.”

Mancini also took time out to pay tribute to his other two goalscorers and insisted it was important for the team to get off to a strong start.

“We played only the first match, the season will be very long. It was very important to start the season like this,” he added.

“Dzeko is a different player to Sergio, it’s important for him, that he scored. For him it’s important to work for the team.”

Next up for Manchester City is a trip to the Reebok Stadium to take on Bolton Wanderers, also 4-0 winners in their opening fixture over the weekend.
