Looking to extend on their recent purple patch on Friday night, Marseille will welcome Strasbourg to The Orange Vélodrome when this weekend’s Ligue 1 fixtures open up.

Starting with the hosts, while Marseille might still find themselves sat outside the European spots, they have enjoyed a real purple patch since returning from the international break. Knowing that they have a real chance on Friday night, Les Phocéens were last seen putting in a thumping display on their travels. Eventually landing a deserved 3-1 romp away at Nimes, Jorge Sampaoli’s side have collected 10 points from their last four Ligue 1 matchups. Skyrocketing their way up the table and recording a trio of strikes in each of their last three contests on the spin, Marseille have also gained a reputation for their continued success on home soil. Last seen at The Orange Vélodrome picking up a 3-2 victory against Lorient, Friday’s hosts are unbeaten in their last six home fixtures, winning five of those appearances.

As for the visitors, while the mood in Marseille’s camp might be at a real high, the same cannot be said for a struggling Strasbourg. With some in their camp still looking over their shoulder at the drop zone, The Racers have only shown a host of issues on either side of the international break. Last seen putting in a worrying display, Thierry Laurey’s men threw away the lead as they suffered a 2-1 defeat against Nantes on home soil. With it appearing that their dramatic 3-2 win against Bordeaux earlier in the month was just a minor bounce, Strasbourg have recorded just a single victory since the start of March and should face another stern test this week. suffering a 1-0 loss when they faced off against Les Phocéens earlier in the season, we’re backing a similar outcome on Friday night.
