Roberto Martinez has hailed Wigan’s Arouna Kone as a “complete striker”.

Kone, who Martinez initially brought to Wigan from Sevilla, has been linked with a move to the Spaniard’s new club, Everton.

However, the Ivory Coast international has also reportedly attracted interest from Newcastle, proving that his former manager is not the only one to see potential in him.

“He’s a very complete striker,” Martinez told the Liverpool Echo.

“He’s powerful, his play with his back to the game is very strong, he links up really well, he can see a pass to final third and he is a clinical finisher.

“He will be a massive asset to the dressing room on the understanding that we have quite a few good strikers at the club already.

“All we want is to be stronger after every window and that’s what we are going to try to do.”

Kone scored 13 goals for relegated Wigan last term but did pick up an FA Cup winner’s medal.
