Martinez resigned to Moses exit

Wigan manager Roberto Martinez says Victor Moses may leave the club but only after his transfer value is met.

Chelsea have been consistently linked with a move for forward Moses throughout pre-season, however the Champions League winners have refused to budge on their nine million-pound offer, with Wigan believed to be holding out for 10.

Moses joined the Latics for an undisclosed fee in 2010 from Championship outfit Crystal Palace and Martinez says it is only a matter of time before the 21-year-old moves on to one of the English Premier League giants.

“There’s been a lot of talk and speculation about Victor Moses,” he said.

“For Victor it’s been an exciting summer. I spoke with him and told him he should be very proud, as a footballer at 21, to get the interest he has had.

“It’s something to be happy and extremely proud about and is a football compliment”

“So far though, the valuation hasn’t been met and in a selfish way I’m delighted.

“I want Victor to stay with Wigan Athletic for as long as we can keep him, he’s such a talented man.”

Meanwhile, Martinez expressed his discontent with the length of the close-season transfer window.

The Spaniard is facing a difficult scenario with Moses ahead of their match against Chelsea on Sunday and he says the window should be shut ahead of the opening game.

“I don’t like it, I have expressed many times that I don’t agree with the transfer window going on while there are official games,” Martinez said.

“I have always said that. I do feel there is a need for a transfer window, it is beneficial, but I don’t think it helps when it is open when you are playing official games.

“It happens everywhere, it gives you uncertainty and I don’t think that helps the game. The players are footballers but they are human beings.”
