Wigan manager Roberto Martinez is gearing up for a busy transfer window as he looks to bolster his injury-hit squad.

Martinez has already secured a deal for Kansas City midfielder Roger Espinoza, who will join up with Wigan in January, but is already looking for further reinforcements.

“We are having a few difficulties, especially with injuries, so we have to find a solution,” Martinez told reporters.

“We need to make it difficult to get into our starting 11.

“So we want to do some business in January. I think it’s important that every transfer window works in your favour and you finish with a stronger squad.

“But I still feel our most important players are already in the squad – they are just injured.”

Wigan have lost five of their last seven Premier League matches and have dropped into the relegation zone despite a promising start to the campaign.

“Our start to the season was the best we have had in the four years that I have been in charge,” Martinez said.

“But we have not got the points we should have done since then and that is something we have to put right.”
