Mbuyane delighted at Pirates plunder

Thulasizwe Mbuyane said it is ‘an honour’ to be part of the record-breaking Orlando Pirates team.

With the Telkom Knockout victory, Pirates now hold a record five trophies in the same year, making South African football history.

Bucs beat Bidvest Wits 3-1 to win the Cup in Durban, and captain Lucky Lekgwathi lifted his fifth trophy in 2011.

The Pirates squad has surpassed the conquering class of 1973, which won four trophies in the same year.

Mbuyane and his team-mates also made history by being the first group of players at Pirates to win the Telkom Knockout, in their seventh final.

“It’s just a great feeling and honour to hear that we have managed to break records and make our own history at Orlando Pirates,” an ecstatic ‘Juju’ told Kickoff.com.

“It’s something that I will cherish for the rest of my life, and I am sure the rest of my team-mates feel the same.”

Mbuyane scored the opening goal at Moses Mabhida Stadium, which proved the right tonic to propel the Mighty Buccaneers to their second trophy this season, after the MTN8.

Mbuyane also explained the ‘special’ celebration he enjoyed for the goal.

“You must remember that they (Wits) broke the bones when they did their celebration after beating us 3-1 at Mbombela Stadium, and my celebration was about opening a book to the Students that they won’t read in the game.”
