McCoist: Jelavic hot property

Rangers boss Ally McCoist is anticipating a flood of interest in January for his Croatian striker Nikica Jelavic.

The 26-year-old, who arrived at Ibrox in August last year from Rapid Vienna, netted twice in Rangers 2-0 Scottish Premier League win over Hibernian at Easter Road on Saturday, taking his goal tally for the season to 14.

Leicester tabled a 6.5 million-pound bid for Jelavic during the last transfer window, and McCoist said he was pleased his striker was attracting attention for his performances.

“I would imagine we will be having this conversation for the next three or four weeks,” McCoist said.

“Jelavic showed just how important he is to our football club. That’s the way it is.”

“I would far rather my players were playing really well and attracting attention from other people than not playing well and nobody being interested in them, put it that way.”

“He’s got 14 goals at the moment and that’s a fair old tally at this stage of the season.”

“I thought Nikica played well for us in what was a really tough ask against Hibs’ best players. I thought their central defenders defended really well.”
