McEachran Wales-bound after Lampard advice

Josh McEachran has revealed how Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard helped convince him to join Swansea City on loan until the end of the season.

The promising 18-year-old midfielder said Lampard, who himself had a spell on loan with Swansea in 1995, playing nine games and scoring a solitary goal, had told him nothing but good things about the club.

“I spoke to Frank a few times before I came down here, and he told me I would love it. He said it is a really nice place with great fans,” McEachran told reporters.

“I had a few options, but I thought Swansea would be the best club for me with their style of play. There were a few other clubs – Aston Villa had a big interest, I think Bolton were there and Wigan.”

The England Under-21 international, who has previously worked with Swans boss Brendan Rodgers when he was involved in the set-up at Stamford Bridge, said that their renowned passing style was another factor that helped seal the move.

“I knew last week that I was definitely going to come to Swansea,” he added.

“I watched the Arsenal game, and their passing – the way they play football – it is just like watching Barcelona, really.”

“They have done really well. I can’t wait to play now.”

McEachran is set to make his debut in Saturday’s trip to Sunderland, with Swansea looking to build on an unbeaten run that stretches to five games following Sunday’s 3-2 victory over Arsenal.
