England Under-21 boss Stuart Pearce has called up Wigan’s Callum McManaman for next month’s European Championship.

The tricky winger has enjoyed a breakthrough season domestically culminating in a stand-out performance during Wigan’s FA Cup final victory last weekend over Manchester City.

The 22-year-old will get his first taste of Under-21 action in Israel, as will Southampton’s talented left-back Luke Shaw.

Shaw, who has been linked with moves to Tottenham and Manchester United, was involved in Pearce’s squad in February however injury kept him out of the game with Sweden.

The 17-year-old has been brought in as cover for Tottenham’s Danny Rose, who misses the first game against Italy in Tel Aviv on June 5 due to suspension.

Liverpool winger Raheem Sterling has been left out of the 23-man squad due to injury, but Tottenham’s Steven Caulker returns from the senior set-up to bolster the defence.

Goalkeepers: Jack Butland (Stoke), Declan Rudd (Norwich), Jason Steele (Middlesbrough)

Defenders: Steven Caulker (Tottenham), Nathaniel Clyne (Southampton), Craig Dawson (West Brom), Tom Lees (Leeds), Danny Rose (Tottenham), Luke Shaw (Southampton), Adam Smith (Tottenham), Andre Wisdom (Liverpool)
