Barcelona star Lionel Messi will be out of action for between two and three weeks with a hamstring injury.
Tests were undertaken on Tuesday, and confirmed a strain in the Argentine’s right leg. He could miss the rest of the season depending on how long it takes him to recover.
Messi limped off in the second-half of Barcelona’s 2-1 victory over Atletico Madrid on Sunday after suffering a recurrence of the injury that has dogged him in recent weeks.
The Argentina international first suffered the problem in the first-leg of Barcelona’s UEFA Champions League quarter-final against Paris Saint-Germain at the Parc des Princes.
He returned off the bench for the second-leg to grab an assist as a 1-1 draw at Camp Nou secured Barcelona’s passage to the semi-finals, where they were comprehensively beaten by Bayern Munich.
Messi has once again been instrumental in his side’s season, scoring 46 goals in just 32 La Liga appearances, and also adding 12 assists.
Tito Vilanova’s men reclaimed the title without playing following rivals Real Madrid’s 1-1 draw with Espanyol on Saturday, and now hold an unassailable 10-point lead in La Liga.
