Hull midfielder David Meyler believes team spirit will help the club to retain Premier League status in the upcoming season.

The Republic of Ireland, who joined Hull from Sunderland on a permanent basis in January following a loan spell, believes there is a togetherness within Steve Bruce’s squad that will help Hull on their return to the top flight.

“We all got on great and there’s no egos. Nobody thinks ‘I’m better than him’ or this or that. Everybody is in it together,” Meyler told The Mirror.

“When I first joined I said the team was like a big family, the lads were all so close.”

Meyler made 29 appearances for Hull last season as Bruce’s side secured promotion on the final day of the campaign with a 2-2 draw against Cardiff.

The 24-year-old insists that Hull deserve to be back in the Premier League and insists the club have every chance of staying up.

“We worked really hard to get where we are at Hull, and it was fully deserved,” he continued.

“A lot of people underestimated us, but the manager was terrific and we’re back in the Premier League where we deserve to be.”
