AC Milan have confirmed Antonio Cassano has been taken to hospital after falling ill upon the club’s return from Rome on Saturday.

The 29-year-old, who featured in the 3-2 Serie A win over Roma, complained he was feeling sick soon after the match and was subsequently taken to a local hospital in the city.

The cause of his illness is unknown, but the club released a statement revealing he would undergo medical tests to determine the extent of the problem.

“AC Milan communicates Antonio Cassano has been taken to hospital for tests after feeling sick upon arrival at Milan’s Malpensa airport following the flight from Rome,” the statement read.

Milan play BATE Borisov in the Champions League on Tuesday, but Cassano’s presence in Belarus is now in doubt.
