Chicago Fire remain bottom of Major League Soccer’s Eastern Conference after they were held 1-1 at home to DC United on Thursday.

Hosts Chicago led through a goal from Sebastian Grazzini in the 59th minute at Toyota Park.

The Argentine midfielder was the beneficiary of some slack defending by the DC backline, who failed to clear Patrick Nyarko’s cross, allowing Grazzini to steal in and strike the ball beyond United goalkeeper Steve Cronin.

Still in the lead going into the final third of the match, Chicago might have dared to think they could add to their meagre tally of two wins from 24 outings this season.

But they saw the lead erased when USA international Josh Wolff struck to level with 17 minutes remaining.

Wolff evaded the Chicago offside trap, getting in behind the defence to score with his side’s only shot on target.

The hosts may feel hard done by, with replays revealing Wolff had been marginally offside.

Chicago remain bottom of the Conference with 21 points and have now set a new MLS record for draws, 15 this season.

DC United meanwhile are sixth, six points behind Conference leaders Columbus Crew.
