The Los Angeles Galaxy rebounded from their loss to the New York Red Bulls with a 1-0 victory over Chivas USA in MLS on Sunday.

A Chad Barrett header in the 53rd minute was the difference between the teams at The Home Depot Center.

The forward had gone close to opening the scoring six minutes before half-time when his powerful header from 18 yards smashed against the post.

But he broke the deadlock after the interval, nodding in a cross from forward Adam Cristman to give Los Angeles an advantage they would not relinquish.

Galaxy, who had already guaranteed a spot in the play-offs, extended their unassailable lead in the Western Conference to seven points.

They also returned to winning ways after suffering a loss to the New York Red Bulls on October 4.

Already out of the running for a spot in the play-offs, Chivas struggled to build momentum up front and were unable to beat Josh Saunders in the Galaxy goal.
