The Portland Timbers moved off the bottom of the Western Conference in MLS with a 1-0 win over the Colorado Rapids on Friday.
A 45th-minute goal from Bright Dike was all that separated the two struggling teams at JELD-WEN Field in front of a sell-out crowd.
Goalkeepers Donovan Ricketts and Matt Pickens were both tested throughout the first half before Dike’s goal on the stroke of half-time.
The Timbers had threatened from the right hand side just moments earlier and found the opener as Sal Zizzo crossed for Dike to tap in his second goal of the season.
Oscar Pareja’s visiting Rapids side were unable to finish any of the chances they created in the second half as the Timbers moved a point clear of Colorado.
