The Vancouver Whitecaps snapped a four-match winless streak with a 2-1 success against the San Jose Earthquakes in the MLS on Sunday.

Martin Rennie’s side entered the match in third in the Western Conference, 12 points behind leaders San Jose.

An entertaining contest was expected at the BC Place Stadium and it did not fail to deliver, with Jamaican Dane Richards opening the scoring for Vancouver after 20 minutes.

Alan Gordon levelled proceedings seven minutes before half-time for San Jose, setting up an exciting second half.

Scottish midfielder Barry Robson netted the winner after 62 minutes, converting from the penalty spot to score his second goal in less than a week.

Robson has made a big impact at Vancouver since crossing from English Championship outfit Middlesbrough earlier this month and his goal saw the Whitecaps build a three-point gap on the fourth-placed Seattle Sounders in the Western Conference.
