The San Jose Earthquakes escaped with a 3-3 draw against FC Dallas in the MLS on Saturday thanks to two late Steven Lenhart goals.

San Jose – who lead the standings in the Western Conference by nine points and are statistically the best-performed side in the entire competition this season – claimed a 24th-minute lead through Alan Gordon.

FC Dallas, who are sixth in the Western Conference and are battling for a playoff spot, staged an excellent comeback though as Panama striker Blas Perez bagged a double to give them the lead with 18 minutes to play.

Lenhart’s first strike with eight minutes left briefly levelled proceedings before FC Dallas defender Matt Hedges netted what looked to be the winner on 88 minutes.

Lenhart had other ideas, though, and his dramatic equaliser in the fifth minute of stoppage time earned San Jose a point.

Former Arsenal legend Thierry Henry was at his best as he inspired the New York Red Bulls to a 4-1 home success against Toronto FC.

The Canadians went into a surprise lead after seven minutes when Ryan Johnson struck a brilliant effort from distance.

Henry’s corner was headed in by Markus Holgersson shortly after before the Frenchman squared to an on-rushing Kenny Cooper who put New York in front after 28 minutes.

Henry set up another Cooper goal with two minutes left before getting on the scoresheet himself, netting a first-time chip from outside the penalty box to cap a superb individual performance.

In other matches, Costa Rican attacker Alvaro Saborio continued his terrific season with a hat-trick in Real Salt Lake’s 4-0 win over Chivas USA, while Chilean Milovan Mirosevic bagged a late winner in Columbus Crew’s 3-2 triumph against Philadelphia Union.

Houston Dynamo beat the New England Revolution 2-0, the Portland Timbers and DC United were locked at 1-1 and the Vancouver Whitecaps and Seattle Sounders played out a goalless draw.
