The Seattle Sounders climbed to third in the MLS Western Conference on Saturday, as leaders Los Angeles were held to a draw by Toronto.

The Sounders could only draw themselves, but their 2-2 result against the Vancouver Whitecaps was enough to lift them one point clear of Real Salt Lake and into third place in the Western Conference.

French striker Eric Hassli put the Whitecaps ahead just before the half-hour mark, and Seattle had to wait until the 81st minute to level through Argentine forward Mauro Rosales.

Cuba midfielder Osvaldo Alonso put them 2-1 up three minutes later, but Hassli scored his second for Vancouver straight after the restart to secure a share of the spoils.

The Los Angeles Galaxy, meanwhile, were also held to a 2-2 draw by Canadian opposition when they met Toronto at The Home Depot Center.

Things looked on track early for the hosts when midfielder Chris Birchall gave them the lead after just two minutes, but Alan Gordon equalised for Toronto.

There was another twist in the tale when former Aston Villa striker Juan Pablo Angel struck to put the Galaxy ahead on 90 minutes, only for Gordon to score his second four minutes into stoppage time to ensure honours remained even.

In other results, a hat-trick from Steven Lenhart helped the San Jose Earthquakes to a 4-2 win on the road over DC United, while Houston Dynamo were 2-1 winners at home against Chivas USA to move into third place in the Eastern Conference.

The Colorado Rapids took fourth place in the Western Conference with a 1-0 win over the Portland Timbers, courtesy of a 92nd-minute goal from Drew Moor.

In the Eastern Conference, Philadelphia Union moved equal top with the New York Red Bulls courtesy of a 1-1 draw at home to Real Salt Lake.

Midfielder Keon Daniel’s 24th-minute goal handed Union the lead, but Argentine attacker Fabian Espindola ensured Real did not go home empty handed with a 53rd-minute equaliser.
