Philadelphia Union moved two points clear on top of the MLS Eastern Conference on Saturday with a 2-0 win over Seattle Sounders at Qwest Field.

After a goalless first half, the Union managed to orchestrate their first strike on the hour mark when Freddy Adu found the back of the net, before Bryan Carroll made sure of the result nine minutes later.

With two games remaining in the regular season, Philadelphia lead Kansas City by two points, with Columbus Crew a further point behind in third.

Elsewhere, a brace from Chris Wondolowski pushed him into a three-way tie on top of the MLS scoring charts and helped the San Jose Earthquakes to a 2-1 win over New England Revolution.

Wondolowski gave the hosts the lead at Gillette Stadium in the eighth minute, but Benny Feilhaber levelled proceedings 10 minutes after the break.

Just as it looked the match was heading for a draw, Wondolowski rose to head home his 14th goal of the season in the 82nd minute to give San Jose just their second win from their last 19 matches.

“It felt good to get back in the win column tonight and I am glad that I could contribute to that,” Wondolowski said.

“On the first goal, I know that Bing (David Bingham) has great distribution so I timed my run a little bit and found the space, and I was able to put it away. The second one was a great build-up and Sam Cronin put it on a platter for me. I just had to put it into the open net.”

DC United’s Dwayne De Rosario and New York Red Bulls striker Thierry Henry share top spot on the goal-scoring charts with Wondolowski on 14 goals.
