Inter president Massimo Moratti has called on his side to finish the season strongly following their 2-0 win over Sampdoria on Wednesday.

Rodrigo Palacio struck twice to hand the San Siro club the win, ending a run of just one win in four Serie A matches while keeping their slim hopes of a top-three finish alive.

Despite warning against reading too deeply into the importance of one result, Moratti has urged his side to continue their form for the closing weeks of the season.

“This was just one game,” he told reporters in Milan. “We must continue this way for future engagements.

“Hopefully in the future all will be well.”

General manager Marco Farrone added his belief that the result keeps their slim hopes of Champions League qualification alive.

“The win enables us to keep alive the hope of reaching third place,” Farrone said. “I’m sure there will be a fight between the teams towards the top of the table until the very end.

“For a club like Inter, the Champions League must be a primary objective.”
